Galveston, Texas

It poured the night before we left for Galveston. There were veritable lakes in the campground. New Orleans is at sea level and the land just can't handle rain. We realized just how awful Katrina must have been for the residents and businesses in the area. Certainly, in our travels we saw numerous neighborhoods and office buildings still in disarray so many years later. As one of our tour guides mentioned, The city of New Orleans should not even be here! Just incredible! I am glad to say that when it was time to leave, the rain had stopped long enough for us to ready the coach and car for the trip. The drive to Galveston was an interesting one....the land is flat and at sea level...as a result all along the coast of the Bolivar Peninsula, homes and businesses were built on very high stilts.
At the end of our drive on the Peninsula, we took the ferry to Galveston.....this gave Lee a break from driving for about 30 minutes and Sammy enjoyed looking at all the activity.
We arrived at our campground, ate leftovers for dinner, and were looking forward to heading to San Antonio.
