NASA Johnson Space Center

We arrived bright and early at the center!

What an incredible sight to see a space shuttle in Independence Plaza as you arrive.  This international landmark features a high fidelity shuttle replica mounted on top of the historic shuttle carrier aircraft  NASA 905.
There were so many choices of things to do....we chose to take the hour long tram ride that brought us to Building 9 which is the Vehicle Mock Up Facility.  From the catwalk high above the massive floor, we saw several mock ups of International Space Station parts and the new Orion capsule. In addition we saw new and developing technology such as cutting edge land rivers and next level space suits.

The next tram stop was to see the the Saturn rocket in Rocket Park.

The Saturn V rocket is one of three surviving vehicles built to launch American astronauts to the moon during the Apollo program of the 1960's and early 1970s.  This vehicle is on loan to NASA Johnson Space Center from the Smithsonian Institution National Air & Space Museum.  It has been preserved to halt its deterioration and is located indoors. The cluster of five engines seen above provided power for the first stage of the Saturn V launch...what an awe inspiring sight!
