Let's Discover Winnipeg!
Lee and I decided that we would explore our new home, Winnipeg! So off we drove to an area of downtown Winnipeg called The Forks. This historic area is Winnipeg’s number one tourist destination; for over 6,000 years has been a meeting site for Aboriginal groups, European fur traders, Metis buffalo hunters, Scottish settlers, riverboat workers, railway pioneers, and tens of thousands of immigrants.
Today this area boasts of museums, markets, walking trails, historical sites, and riverboat rides.
We definitely enjoyed the marketplace which had so many interesting shops. We purchased Saskatoon oatmeal muffins and cinnamon rolls at the Grass Prairie Bread company…..of course we purchased some fabulous wines at their specialty wine shop, Ellement!V
We passed by theaters, old railway cars, museums, restaurants, etc. It was so hot that we decided to take a riverboat tour cruise on the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. We had a delightful captain who provided entertaining commentary and historical insights on many points of interest along the way. We passed under the Norwood Bridge which had the many flood levels painted on it….we passed the Manitoba Legislative Building, the Esplanade Riel Foot Bridge, and the Canadian Museum of Human Rights.
After the tour, we walked over to the Beachcomber Bar and enjoyed a Bulldog Prosecco Cocktail which was a perfect choice for hot weather!
When we returned “home” I prepared a fabulous dinner for everyone of arugula parmigiana ravioli and salad. To that we added a bottle of Pinot Grigio! Again, another great evening filled with conversation and a lot of laughter!
